This is the first time I've written a review, but I'm making the effort because Sumi Sushi really deserves it! They are now my number one favorite sushi bar. Everything was great, the food, the service and the value. I sincerely thought the general manager was the owner because of how she cared for everything. You better go in hungry because you going to come out completely satisfied!
I came in for lunch and was incredibly surprised at the freshness of the fish and the quality of the food! The service was top tier and second to none to match! the restaurant is very cozy and comfortable and makes for an amazing dining experience. Thank you so much for the amazing food and even better service!
It took over a year for me and Gayle to return to Sumi Sushi after a particularly memorable Yelp Elite event here. The rules are that you review the event, and then the restaurant later. That takes the "free food" factor out of the review equation. And why did we wait so long? Maybe that's one of life's many mysteries. We came here last night with Darling Granddaughter, who loves Sushi. On this Sunday night, the place was hopping, but with enough capacity to be seated at a nice lower table near the front. The Sushi was fresh and tasty, the service was prompt and attentive (including the owner), the portions were generous, pricing was consistent with the quality and quantity, and we left full and happy. So compared to the previous visit? Same as it ever was! Tip: The Sushi comes out quickly, but for those who order something "Off Nigiri" (like a Teriyaki Plate), you might have to wait a little longer.
Hard to beat good fish with competent sushi chef. Reno-style AYCE sushi is kinda its own thing compared to trad style sushiyas in CA, but I like it for what it is -- good fish, quality service, accessible rolls, all tucked in a lively sushi bar setting on the side street of downtown Carson. Also the new(ish) owners are retired lawyers who made this a passion project and it shows. Hehe at "Sue-Me". :)
IMHO the best Sushi in Carson City! I spend 1-2 months a year in Japan and find the Sushi here as good as many high end in Japan. Fish is handled perfectly and there is no fishy smell like a few others in town.
